Illustrations for Scum Grrrls #18
For the latest issue of Scumgrrrls magazine (#18) I contributed some articles about Take Back the Night and violence to women, craft and activism and an interview with feminists living in community houses. For 2 of these articles I provided illustrations too (scroll down). Also, some photos of mine are printed in the magazine.

Voor het recentste nummer van Scumgrrrls magazine (nr 18) heb ik enkele teksten geschreven over Take Back The Night en geweld tegen vrouwen, handwerk en activisme en een interview met feministes die in gemeenschapshuizen wonen. Voor 2 van deze artikels heb ik ook illustraties bijgedragen (zie hieronder). Verder staan er ook enkele foto’s van mij in.
Little doll
I love to craft, sew and draw. So I made this little doll some time ago and I’m working on a new one, similar to this one. It’s based on a drawing. I’ve tried out diverse techniques for making dolls: using felt, crochet, embroidery… But unbleached cotton fabric and black markers for textile seem like a perfect combination to make exactly what I want.

Ik hou van handwerk, naaien en tekenen. Dit popje heb ik een tijdje geleden gemaakt en ik ben bezig aan een nieuw gelijkaardig popje. Het is gebaseerd op een tekening. Ik heb al allerlei technieken uitgeprobeerd om popjes te maken: naaien met vilt, haken, borduren… Maar ongebleekte katoenen stof en zwarte textielstiften lijken de perfecte combinatie om te maken wat ik wil.
I like… Tricot Trottoir
Tricot Trottoir (aka Stadsbrei aka Knitta Plastic) is an activist knit collective from Brussels who knit street-art and do urban craft actions. They make yarn out of plastic bags to criticise the gigantic amount of waste we are producing. Recently I heard their founder, Toos Van Liere, speak on the national women’s day in Brussels. She talked about the actions that Tricot Trottoir had done and she said that everyone can join them and participate… you just have to knit a balaclava first! Where are my knitting needles?

Tricot Trottoir (aka Stadsbrei aka Knitta Plastic) is een brei-actiegroep uit Brussel die gebreide street-art maken en handwerkacties in de stad doen. Ze maken garen uit plastieken zakken om de gigantische afvalberg die we produceren te bekritiseren. Ik hoorde hun oprichtster, Toos Van Liere, onlangs aan het woord tijdens de recente nationale vrouwendag. Ze vertelde over de acties die Tricot Trottoir al uitgevoerd heeft en ze zei dat iedereen zich bij hen kan aansluiten en met hen mee kan doen… je moet enkel eerst een bivakmuts breien! Waar zijn mijn breinaalden?
